Odunlade Adekola is a Nigerian actor, singer, film-maker, producer and director, born and raised in Abeokuta, Ogun State, but from Otun Ekiti, in Ekiti State. The versatile Nigerian actor is mostly assumed to be from Ogun state as most of his movies and productions are shot in the state. His proud Egba accent in most movies have also confused his fans who believe he is from Ogun.
Thought to be the most sought after Nigerian actor in the Nollywood movie industry, Odunlade Adekola is believed to be the most expensive Nigerian actor around.
Odunlade Adekola’s Early Life
Odunlade, as he is fondly called, was born on 31 December 1976 in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. He attended St John’s Primary School and St. Peter’s College in Abeokuta, obtaining the West African School Certificate Examination before he proceeded to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, where he received a diploma certificate. He proceeded to further his education and in 2018, he received a degree in Bachelors of Business Administration at the University of Lagos.
Odunlade started acting at a very early age. According to him, whenever any anniversary was to hold in his church (the Christ Apostolic Church, Lafenwa, Abeokuta), he and a friend named Tunde would request to play jesters, and this request was always granted. He would then write a “script” for a comedy play involving just two characters (him and his friend). Little did many know the little opportunity would give rise to the birth of a movie star, director and a movie producer.
He began acting in 1996, the same year he joined the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts practitioners and was under the tutelage of the late Nollywood actor and producer Isola Durojaiye (also known as Alasari). He had starred, scripted, produced and directed several Nigerian films over the years. In April 2014, he won the Africa Movie Academy Award, having emerged as best actor of the year alongside Fathia Balogun who emerged as best actress of the year. In December 2015, He marked his entrance into the Nigerian music industry. Due to his popularity and impact in the film industry, photographs of Adekola during filming is widely used as internet meme across Nigerian webosphere.

The ‘meme king’ has over a hundred movies he has starred in and has won notable awards, some of which are;
- City People Entertainment Awards best actor of the year (2009, 2011, 2014, and 2015)
- African Magic Movie Award for best actor and best existing actor in the movie (Pepeye Meje).
Odunlade his married. His wife’s name is Ruth and they met in 1995 at an event held by that same Christ Apostolic Church in Abeokuta. The couple is said to have been together ever since. The marriage is blessed with four adorable boys, the youngest of their boys was born in 2015.
